In recent years, the school vacation schedule has become “floating”: they no longer have exact dates set once and for all, and each year their dates are slightly shifted. What does it depend on, and what will be the vacation schedule for the 2016-2017 school year?

What affects the terms of vacation

According to modern Russian laws, there is no unified schedule of school holidays in the country: in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Education, educational institutions have the right to independently determine the schedule for children's rest, the number of short holidays and their duration. The only exception is Moscow, where all students study and relax according to one of two schedules: the traditional one, when the school year is divided into four quarters and the modular one (five weeks of study and one week of rest), and for each option, uniform vacation periods are set.

In other regions of Russia, education authorities as a rule issue recommendations in which they suggest that educational institutions set the start and end dates of the holidays, leaving the final decision “at the mercy” of the school administration.

It is recommended to start the holidays on Monday (so that the weekend is “added to” them), which allows you not to “split” the school week into parts and increase the duration of the schoolchildren’s continuous rest. The exact duration of the holidays is also not regulated - as a rule, 30-35 days are allotted for the rest of the academic year, which allows the curriculum to be fully completed by the end of May.

Despite this freedom, most Russian schools conservatively approach the issue of determining the school vacation schedule - as a result, most of the country's schoolchildren rest on the same dates.

What will be the dates of vacations in the 2016-2017 school year in most schools in Russia?

Dates of the autumn holidays in 2016

Autumn holidays are traditionally held in early November and fall on the week in which Russians celebrate National Unity Day (November 4).

In 2016, the autumn holidays will begin on October 31 (Monday) and will last until the end of the week, until November 6 (Sunday). The second training quarter will begin on November 7th. Thus, in schools where Saturday is a school day, students will rest for 8 days, students in five days - 9.

However, National Unity Day falls on Friday this year. Therefore, in some schools, the start date of the autumn vacation 2016 can be set on November 7, which will increase the duration of the vacation by joining them with a holiday. In this case, the students will rest until November 13, and the rest will be 10 days.

Schedule of winter school holidays 2016-2017

Winter school holidays, falling on New Year's holidays and separating the second quarter from the third, are especially loved by schoolchildren - they are the longest of all "intra-year". In addition, they coincide with the all-Russian rest period for adults, which allows families to spend time together - including traveling. Therefore, the terms of the winter holidays, as a rule, are especially worrying for parents of schoolchildren.

School holidays begin on the last Monday of December. In 2016-2017, the "start" will be quite early - the last Monday of the month falls on the 26th day (that is, schoolchildren will begin to relax from Sunday, December 25th). Children will have time to properly prepare for the main holiday of winter. True, the New Year's holiday will end earlier than usual - January 8.

The third, the longest academic quarter starts on January 9, on Monday - on this day, students will have to sit down again at their desks.

Extra vacation periods for first graders

The third quarter is especially hard for first-graders - they are not yet accustomed to the traditional school schedule, and therefore, in the middle of the third quarter, they have “special” holidays. To the envy of all other students, first-graders rest at the end of February for a week.

In the 2016-2017 academic year, additional vacations for first-graders will begin on February 20 and will last until the 26th, coinciding in terms with the celebration of Defender of the Fatherland Day.

Pupils of correctional schools will also have a rest during these same periods of time - they are also subject to the rule on extra holidays.

Spring School Dates 2017

Spring breaks most often fall in the last week of March. The 2016-2017 school year will not be an exception.

Schoolchildren will be released on vacation on Monday, March 27 - and they will rest for one week, until April 2. Taking into account Sunday, the duration of the March holiday will be 8 days with a six-day period, and 9 with a five-day training regime.

The first day of the fourth quarter will be April 3. It will last until the end of May (depending on the administration of the school, the academic year in all classes except 9 and 11 ends between May 21 and May 31), after which the students will have three months of summer vacation.

Vacation schedule for 2016-2017 with the modular training mode "5 + 1"

In those schools in Moscow where the parents of the students did not choose a classical school schedule with dividing the school year into four quarters, but a modular scheme of “five weeks of study - one week of rest”, vacations in 2016-2017 will take place in the following terms:

  • from October 3 to October 9;
  • from November 14 to November 20;
  • from December 31 to January 8;
  • from February 20 to February 26;
  • from April 10 to April 16.

Quarterly vacation schedule in Moscow schools

Pupils of Moscow schools, where the educational process is organized according to the traditional “four quarters” scheme, will have a rest in the 2016-2017 academic year, just like most students in the country:

  • Autumn holidays from October 31 to November 6;

  • winter holidays from December 26 to January 8;

  • spring break from March 27 to April 2;

  • Extra holidays for the first classes - from February 20 to 26.
