How to memorize text

Any text has a certain semantic load. In everyday life, we are faced with memorizing different types of texts: from fragments of fiction to various kinds of speeches and presentation texts. The process of memorization will be successful if it is based on an understanding of the logical "core" of the text. Therefore, when writing texts for memorization, it is worth paying special attention to the logical sequence and the formation of text blocks with completed semantic load.

Dividing the text into semantic blocks, we facilitate the process of memorization by highlighting the main idea in each paragraph. Thus, a logical chain is formed of the fundamental facts that make up the idea that you need to remember.

Usually we divide the text into 3 main blocks - introduction, main part, conclusion.

1) Read the introduction for the first time, trying to highlight the line of actors (format - personal presentation, presentation on behalf of the organization, the first excerpt of a work of art, etc.). Read the paragraph again, paying attention to descriptive points and lexical turns of the text. Based on the logical sequence of entry, try to reproduce the text you read. It takes an average of 3 to 5 readings to memorize an introduction. Allow yourself to peep for the first time, but train your memory - reduce the number of peeps every time! After the introduction has strengthened in your memory, go to the main part and begin by remembering the logical transition from the introduction to the topic of the main block.

2) In the main part, highlight the keywords. Try to remember the nature of the interaction between the objects of your speech. To memorize, you will also need to reproduce the text of the main part several times aloud.

If the main part is voluminous and touches on several important topics, break it down into semantic steps. This will help you strengthen the logical sequence of text in your memory.

3) The conclusion usually contains a summary, assessment, assumption, wish or statement summarizing the above text. Remember the conclusion as a conclusion of the previous text. Repeatedly reading the conclusion will help you learn the intricacies of the text and work on the intonation load.

When reproducing the full text, the same rule applies - the first time you can peek, but for the second time you can shorten the spy.

Useful advice

After you have learned each of the selected blocks, read the text again. With the correct intonation and thoughtful utterance of memorized fragments. If necessary, before reading a memorized text, read it as many times as you need.
