What cards to use for memorizing words?

To productively memorize the words of the studied language, the card method is often used. However, it is important to remember that different groups of words and expressions can and should use different types of cards.

1. Universal cards. The essence of such a card is very simple: on the one hand, the word being studied is written or printed, on the other, its translation. Everything is extremely simple, but sometimes on the side with the "original" it is also worth writing down the transcription to be sure of the correct pronunciation.

2. Cards for irregular verbs. In this case, two approaches are possible: (1) on the front side we write the indefinite (initial) form of the verb (find), on the back - two forms and the translation (found-found-find); (2) on the front side - three forms, on the back - translation. The second type, as a rule, is more effective.

3. Cards for non-standard forms of degrees of comparison of adjectives (old-elder-the eldest) and adverbs (well-better-best). See paragraph above.

4. Cards for memorizing the pronunciation. On the obverse, we write the word "in the original" (conscientious), on the reverse, transcription ([ˌkɔn (t) ʃɪ'en (t) ʃəs]). Such cards are also convenient for practicing the spelling subtleties of the language being studied.

5. Monolingual cards. On the front side, we write the word under study (leap), on the back, its definition in the studied language (jump or spring a long way, to a great height, or with great force).

6. Cutting. On the one side we write the “original” word, on the same (!) Side, but on the other half of the card we write to choose from: translation, irregular forms, transcription - in general, what you need as part of the task. Why are the cards cut and their halves mixed. It turns out an amusing lotto domino. The task is to connect the cut halves, finding them in a common heap.

Tip: when creating a card, it is strongly recommended not to print, but to write by hand: this way several types of memory are involved at once, which allows you to quickly and productively memorize the material.
