How to behave on excursions

Excursions are a favorite part of holidays for many tourists. Going on vacation and lying on the beach all day is very boring and not very smart, especially if you relax in places with picturesque nature and unique architecture that has its own history. Wandering around an unfamiliar city on your own is also not worth it, because there is a risk of missing the most important and interesting sights. But on excursions, as well as on other collective events, it is necessary to observe certain norms and rules of behavior.

When the sightseeing bus stops at any place and the whole group is asked to proceed to the street, do not try to run out first, interfering with the guide and other vacationers sitting closer to the exit. Do not worry that you will miss something important or you will be forgotten. The guide will never begin to talk about the sights until all members of the group gather and are ready.

Listen to the guide carefully, never interrupt him. Excursion etiquette strictly prohibits arguing with a guide, even if you are absolutely sure that he made a mistake in his story. At the end of the tour, you will have time to personally chat with the guide, ask questions of interest or prove your point of view.

Do not get out of your seats while driving the bus to see any attraction. This is forbidden, even if you can’t see what the guide indicates, because you will block the view for other members of the group, create dangerous conditions or add problems to the driver, who can be fined for transporting passengers running around the cabin. No one is safe from sudden braking during emergencies, so take care of a good place on the bus during boarding, and not while driving.

When walking, try to keep your distance from the guide. The guide should be well seen and heard by all members of the group, and not just those standing next to him. Carefully listen to all directions and warnings of the guide. Before you do something or buy, consult with him at a specially designated time. The fact is that in some places it is strictly forbidden to conduct photo or video shooting and one shot you make may turn into an unexpected end of the excursion for the whole group. And a cigarette butt thrown in the wrong place can even turn into an arrest for you for several days or a large fine.

Thank the guide at the end of the tour and say goodbye to him. This is one of the main rules of excursion etiquette, without which the excursion is considered incomplete. And do not try to leave the bus first and say goodbye to everyone faster - this is perceived as bad form.

Book tours directly through a tour operator, and not from unprofessional local guides. Unfortunately, there are frequent cases of unpleasant incidents during excursions conducted by guides who do not have permission to do so.

Do not go on an excursion while intoxicated or feeling unwell. On the road, you can cause trouble for your group or guide, or even spoil the tour.
