Calorie is an off-system unit of measurement, derivatives of which are used, in particular, for measuring the amount of heat. For example, when determining the power of heating equipment, calculating the cost of utilities for supplying hot water, etc. gigacalories are used. In the SI system, watt and its derivatives are intended to measure "thermal power". There is a coefficient for converting kilowatts to gigacalories.

Use the ratio of 100 kW = 0.0859845 gcal when converting capacities measured in kilowatts per hour to power expressed in gigacalories per hour. The inverse relation follows from this correspondence: 1 kcal = 0.001163 kW.

Use any calculator to translate the values measured in kilowatts into the corresponding value in gigacalories. For example, one of the calculator options from the Windows OS is just the conversion of units of measure. You can access this calculator through the main menu of the operating system. Press the WIN key or click the "Start" button to expand the menu. Then go to the "All Programs" section and open the "Standard" subsection - the "Calculator" line is placed in it and you need to click it. You can do without the Start button and moving the menu - press WIN + R, then type calc and press Enter.

Activate calculator options related to conversion of values. To do this, open the "View" section in the menu and select the "Translation of quantities" line. Additional options will be placed in the left pane of the changed calculator interface.

Expand the Category list and select the line Energy in it. In the "Initial value" drop-down list below, click the line "kilowatt hour". In the third list ("Final value") select "kilocalorie". There are no gigacalories in these lists, so you will have to perform an additional operation with the result.

Click on the input field of the calculator and type the value in kilowatts that you want to convert to gigacalories. Then click the "Convert" button and the calculator will show the value in kilocalories. To translate it into gigacalories, divide the value by a million - click the button with a slash ("slash"), enter 1000000 and press the key with the equal sign.
