How to learn to speak correctly

A competent speech will be an excellent recommendation in many situations: when passing exams and getting a job, in private conversation and public speaking. On the contrary, the poor vocabulary and the inability to accurately state the information may lead you at the wrong time.

To master the correct oral speech, read more good literature - not modern ladies' novels and detective stories, whose authors themselves are often at odds with the Russian language, but the classics - at least of those authors who are studied at school.

Learn to retell books and movies you like, setting them out in detail or conveying the main point. Follow the reaction of the audience - if they are bored and ask questions off-topic, then you can’t convey your impressions of the work. Think about why this happens: you may be abusing personal pronouns, so that the interlocutors are no longer able to understand who these numerous "he", "she" and "they" are.

Get rid of unnecessary words, i.e. those that do not add anything to the meaning of the text and do not carry separate information. A typical example of the use of unnecessary words: “May is not a month” (May cannot be a year, hour or minute), “lift up”, “fall back”, “minute of time”, etc.

Avoid tautology - the repetition of words with the same root or similar in meaning: "butter oil", "ask a question." For practice, analyze the speech of your interlocutors, politicians, television broadcasters and showmen. Think about what mistakes they make and how to replace unsuccessful phrases. After that, it will be easier for you to follow your own speech and correctly build sentences.

Eradicate parasites and interjection ligaments in your speech. Verbal garbage like "type", "as it were, " "well, this" makes speech unintelligible and inexpressive. These ligaments and interjections are required if it is difficult for a speaker to find a word in his vocabulary that accurately expresses his thoughts and feelings. There is only one way out: to study the dictionary of synonyms so that your speech is not lethargic, verbose, and unexpressive.

Do not use words whose meaning you do not know. Otherwise, you risk becoming like grandfather Shchukar, who believed that the "curb" is a girl of easy virtue, and the "lampshade", on the contrary, is a good girl. Explanatory dictionary of the Russian language and the dictionary of foreign words will help you expand your vocabulary. Pay attention to the stress in words.

Think about the appropriateness of using professional or youth slang. At work or in a friendly company, they will understand you, but in an official speech or in conversation with people from another social group, these expressions may be unsuccessful.
