How to record fractions with a period

Division is one of the simplest arithmetic operations. However, in its implementation, you may encounter unexpected difficulties. What if the fraction obtained as a result of the division has a period?

Division is one of four basic arithmetic operations in which three components participate. The first of these is the dividend, that is, the number undergoing division. The second is the divisor, that is, the number by which division is performed. The third is particular, that is, the result of the division. The division procedure requires that the product of the quotient and the divider as a result gives the original dividend. Thus, the division operation looks quite simple. However, in practice, even if we are talking about the simplest case - the division of positive integers, the result may not always be an integer.

Common and decimal fractions

In the event that it is impossible to divide one number into another without a remainder, the result of division is usually written as the total number of whole units resulting from the division and the number of fractions of a unit called a fraction. Common recording options for fractions, each of which is generally accepted, are the so-called ordinary and decimal fractions. Ordinary fractions are a record of a dividend and a divisor, separated by a slash or a horizontal bar. Moreover, the dividend, which in this case is called the numerator, should be less than the divisor, which is called the denominator. Otherwise, the whole part should be extracted from such an irregular fraction. Another way to write a fraction is a decimal fraction, which is actually an ordinary fraction in which the numerator is a multiple of 10. It is written as a number separated by a comma from the integer part of the division result. For example, the result of dividing 3 by 4 can be written as an ordinary fraction as 3/4 or as a decimal fraction as 0.75.
