How does fabric softener work?

The use of fabric softeners (softeners) when washing is already a habit among many housewives. And not in vain: the things washed with their use are soft, easier to iron, smell good and are practically free from static electricity.

The main component of any fabric softener is cationic surfactants, which create a special protective film on the surface of the fabric. It is due to it that the thing becomes softer, easier to iron and not electrified. In addition, the protective film helps to maintain the saturation and brightness of the fabric colors during washing: surfactants prevent the fibers from sticking together and the formation of coils that scatter light.
