With almost any type of modeling, the ability to make a scan is required. At the same time, it doesn’t matter at all whether a person is engaged in plastic work, creating architectural projects on a computer or making parts on a lathe.

On the sheet of paper, build the base of the desired geometric body. If you are given a parallelepiped or a pyramid, measure the length and width of the base and draw a rectangle on the sheet of paper with the appropriate parameters. To build a sweep of a cone or cylinder, you need to know the radius of the circle of the base. If it is not specified in the condition, measure the circumference and calculate the radius.

Consider the parallelepiped. You will see that all its faces are located at right angles to the base, but the parameters of these faces are different. Measure the height of the geometric body and use a square to draw two perpendiculars to the length of the base. Lay on them the height of the parallelepiped. The ends of the resulting segments connect a straight line. Do the same on the opposite side of the original rectangle.

From the points of intersection of the sides of the original rectangle, draw perpendiculars to its width. Lay the height of the parallelepiped on these straight lines and connect the resulting points of the straight line. Do the same on the other side.

From the outer edge of any of the new pramangles, the length of which coincides with the length of the base, build the upper face of the parallelepiped. To do this, draw perpendiculars from the intersection points of the length and width lines located on the outside. Lay the width of the base on them and connect the points of the line.

To build a sweep of the cone through the center of the circle of the base, draw a radius through any point of the circle and continue it. Measure the distance from the base to the top of the cone. Set aside this distance from the intersection point of the radius and the circle. Mark the vertex point of the side surface. Using the radius of the side surface and the length of the arc, which is equal to the circumference of the base, calculate the sweep angle and set it aside from the straight line drawn through the top of the base. Using a compass, connect the previously found point of intersection of the radius and the circle with this new point. Sweep cone ready.

To build a sweep of the pyramid, measure the height of its sides. To do this, find the middle of each side of the base and measure the length of the perpendicular dropped from the top of the pyramid to this point. Having drawn the base of the pyramid on the sheet, find the midpoints of the sides and draw perpendiculars to these points. Connect the obtained points with the intersection points of the sides of the pyramid.

The cylinder scan consists of two circles and a rectangle located between them, the length of which is equal to the circumference, and the height is the height of the cylinder.

Before you begin, remember how the dimensions of the edges of a given geometric body and its angles are calculated. If you are given a body with a round base and a certain radius, remember the formula by which the circumference and height of a given body are calculated.

Useful advice

Perform all operations with geometric bodies only using tools, otherwise the scan will turn out to be inaccurate. If you are performing reamers for paper plastics, be sure to leave bonding allowances. If you are given a complex geometric body, try to mentally divide it into several simple ones. First, sweep simple bodies, then connect them into a complex. Please note that some aspects of simpler bodies are not needed.
