How to enter a music school

The College of Music is the second stage of professional music education. Before entering a music school or college, an applicant must carefully prepare. Preparation for admission includes the choice of direction (instrumental performance, musical theory, solo or choral singing, etc.), the study of solfeggio and the history of music.

General humanitarian disciplines, taken on admission to the music school - the Russian language, literature, possibly history. Most schools accept applicants who have passed the exam in these areas for a specific score.

Additional, creative exams. The main one is the presentation of the program from musical works of various forms (polyphony, sonata, play, study for an instrument, an aria from an opera, romance, folk song and vocalization for voice) on the instrument that you have chosen. The level of difficulty depends on the entrance requirements of a particular school and your own training. For entrants and conductors of the choir and orchestra and theorists, the program is performed on the piano.

The next exam is solfeggio. It consists of recording a one-voice dictation, singing from a sheet of one solfeggio number and singing another number by heart. In some schools, additional tasks are included in the Solfeggio exam.

The final test is a colloquium, or job interview. On it, members of the selection committee test your knowledge in the field of theory and history of music, especially aspects related to your program (biography of composers, features and history of form, musical analysis of works).
