In our fast-moving age, accurate and timely information is becoming one of the factors determining mass consciousness. That is why journalism is called the "fourth power", thereby emphasizing its impact on society. Having decided to study as a journalist, try to get a special education. Today, many universities train specialists for the media, but the most recognized in the country are diplomas from the journalism faculties of Moscow State University and St. Petersburg University. Upon admission, you will need to pass entrance tests in the Russian language, literature and take part in a creative competition.

If training at the Faculty of Journalism is for some reason unavailable to you, use the education you previously received. You can become a specialist in journalism with any special education; it is desirable that it be supreme. Being a certified specialist, say, in the field of history, linguistics or jurisprudence, you can get the missing knowledge and skills in the course of practical journalistic work.

Think over the general topic of your future journalistic work, identify the topic in which you feel the most competent and on which you want to work. It can be culture, science, education, social sphere, healthcare, economy and so on.

Prepare a list of several topics. Write two or three materials that could be shown to the editor for evaluation. Of course, this will require not only the skills of writing out your thoughts, but also the mastery of the topic. It is at this moment that the real study begins. Do not be embarrassed if the quality of the articles at first does not match the best samples. Mastery and professionalism come with experience.

Select the publication you would like to collaborate with. It can be a newspaper, magazine or online publication. Write to the editor or to the HR service, expressing your desire to work as a journalist. Make an appointment with decision makers.

When meeting with the editor, let him know that your desire to learn journalism is not a momentary whim. Show your work and ask to get acquainted with them. It will be good if you have any suggestions on how to improve the publication.

Starting to collaborate with the publication, immediately try to get involved in the general creative process, without neglecting the most insignificant topics and subjects. Feel free to ask questions to more experienced colleagues. Remember that the most stupid question is one that you did not ask. Having motivation and a goal, over time you will get the skills and abilities that can make you, if not a star of journalism, then, in any case, a strong professional.
