There are many ways to memorize words in English: listening to repeating, memorizing lists, memorizing individual phrases and sentences. However, one of the most practical and effective methods is the use of special vocabulary cards.

The first question that you may encounter when making dictionary cards is size. Do not get too hung up on this problem; the best option is from the size of a business card (9 by 5 cm) or less. Although the best option is to focus on yourself, since it is for you, and not anyone else, to use them.

So, having bought in the stationery store or having cut the necessary number of cards, we determine which words we will remember: it can be scattered units from the book that you are reading now, or phrases and words collected on topics, or just a mosaic of those “pieces” of the language that do not fit in the head. Having decided on the set, write down on one side of the card a word in the studied language, on the other - translation into Russian. Sometimes it’s worth adding a transcription of the word, and if it has non-standard forms, especially in the case of irregular (strong, irregular) verbs of the go-went-gone type or adjectives of the little-less-the least type, then it is extremely useful to write down possible variants of the forms.

First, looking at the word, you can recall its translation into Russian. We looked, talked, remembered the translation, and, turning the card over, checked ourselves. If everything is correct, we postpone the card a separate pile. We do the same with the second, third, and so on. When all the cards are in the "worked out" pile, we take them again and, already looking at the Russian-language version, remember the word in the language we are learning and also put it off.

When all the cards in the pile have been worked out "in both directions, " you can drag them with an elastic band and set aside for convenience, but it is highly advisable to return to each acquired packet at least once a week until you realize that you have firmly mastered the whole set words and phrases.

Tip: when searching cards, pronounce the words out loud. This will speed up memorization and make it easier to integrate into everyday speech.

Happy learning!
