Someone believes that constant strict control over how a child is studying is necessary, with mandatory rewards for good grades and, accordingly, punishments for bad ones. Someone claims that acting by coercion means guaranteed to discourage a child from learning. Often one also hears the opinion that there is no need to motivate a student at all: they say that in our time, without a connection and patronage, even a round honors student will not fall into a prestigious university.

First of all, pay attention to whether your child wants to go to school at all, whether it causes him positive emotions, or whether he perceives his studies as a painful burden. And the very idea of ​​the need to go there causes him a negative reaction, up to depression. In the second case, it is possible that in his class there was an unhealthy psychological situation, and the child became the subject of ridicule and insult. Of course, talking about interest in learning is not necessary here, and all calls to study better will be wasted. You should either solve this issue with the school management, or transfer the child to another educational institution.

If the child wants to study and willingly goes to school, then you can increase his motivation in relatively simple, but effective ways. Show interest in what is happening in the classroom, at school. The child should feel that mom and dad are worried about him, support. Of course, this support should not take the form of annoying guardianship, when a child is required to report almost every minute: where he was, what he did. Control is necessary, but within reasonable limits.

Delicately and unobtrusively teach the child that good study is in his own interests. An educated, knowledgeable person can subsequently get a prestigious, highly paid job. Explain to him that the times of the “crazy 90s” are in the past, and now without knowledge you cannot succeed.

At the same time, do not make a cult out of study, do not turn it into an obsession. If the child is clearly not “pulling” this or that object, you need not to scold him, let alone punish him, but calmly and objectively figure out what is the reason. Maybe the school is not an adequately qualified teacher in this subject? Maybe for some reason he did not find a common language with the child? In this case, you should not make scandals, but try to find a good tutor.
