Nowadays, the ability to read quickly is extremely important, since a huge amount of printed information surrounds a modern person. Reading speed is formed in childhood and lasts a lifetime. Fortunately, using special techniques, you can significantly increase the reading speed of an adult.

one

Try not to return your eyes to the already read fragment of the text. Read without regressions. If you need to return to the text to fully understand what you read, read the individual fragments again. Do this only after the first reading without regressions.

2

Determine in advance what your goal is in reading this or that text. We always read educational and professional literature with the aim of obtaining certain information on which it is necessary to concentrate in the reading process.

3

Perceive the text using the following differential algorithm: keywords, semantic series and dominant. The main semantic load is expressed by keywords that are recommended to be emphasized with a pencil when reading. Keywords form semantic series, allowing to understand the brief content of the paragraph. The dominant is an expression of the semantic part of the text and is formed by the reader in his own words as a result of comprehension of the reading.

4

Read to yourself. Articulation is the main enemy of speed reading. Suppress articulation attempts such as pronouncing single words and moving your lips. To do this, hold a pencil between your lips. Also getting rid of articulation helps tapping the rhythm with your hand while reading.

5

Develop peripheral vision in order to quickly find the necessary information in the text, focusing on keywords. Try to perceive the text not in separate words or lines, but in paragraphs. Gradually accustom yourself to keeping an entire page in sight.

6

Develop attention. Productive reading requires such qualities of attention as concentration, stability, distribution, switching, and volume. It is best to develop these qualities precisely in the process of teaching high-speed reading.

Useful advice

High-speed reading is not suitable for fiction, since such books do not involve the extraction of certain information.
