Structures are often used to graphically represent information. They most clearly and visually show the connections between the elements of the structure, as well as the hierarchy between them. Structures facilitate the perception of data and help analyze it.

You will need

  • - paper;

  • - a pencil;

  • - ruler;

  • - pen or graphic computer program.

Instruction manual

one

Determine the type of future structure depending on how the elements of the structure should be located. Select a structure with a designated node, or a layered structure based on a single element.

2

Analyze detailed information about the constituent parts of the structure, identify the data that you will reflect in the structure.

3

Develop a conditional classification based on which you will place and group the elements of the structure. Determine, for example, by what feature subordination relationships will be created.

4

Decide how the elements of the structure will be located in relation to each other: at an equidistant distance, closely, or they will partially overlap each other.

5

Start building the structure from above. Place equivalent elements on one level. Below them should be elements with a lower position in the hierarchy. You can group several elements that have a common attribute, or belong to one higher element.

6

Allowed the placement of structural elements in rectangles, ovals or other geometric shapes. Respect proportionality when creating elements.

7

Arrows or straight lines indicate the relationship between the elements. Show the relationship between one higher level element and subordinate elements below it. Also draw links between elements that are on the same horizontal line, if there are any links between them.

eight

Create characteristic relationships, indicated, for example, by a dashed line to show the special relationships between the elements.

9

Check whether it is possible to track the hierarchy between the elements according to the obtained structure and see all the relationships between the constituent parts of the structure.
