How to avoid speech errors

You can use combinations of words in spoken language without even knowing that you are making mistakes. Moreover, some people get confused in conversation, while others - when writing. To prevent the misuse of phrases and to avoid speech errors, you need to know the norms of the Russian language and pay attention to them when making sentences.

Watch for the absence of pleonasm in the speech - unnecessary words. For example, you should not use expressions: the main essence, price list, prospects for the future, a period of time, in the end, first get to know, etc.

Avoid sharing the same root words: a characteristic trait, draw a drawing, put together, etc. Such words may not sound very appropriate even in adjacent sentences.

Do not confuse words that are similar in sound, but give a different meaning to the phrase, for example, hidden and secretive, effective and efficient, full and satisfying, etc.

Keep in mind that replacing one of the constituent words in stable phrases also becomes one of the common speech errors. You should not say “in the field of attention” instead of “in the spotlight” or “in the field of vision”, “play the meaning” instead of “play the role” or “make the difference”, etc.

Make sure that the subject in the sentence is not blocked by direct addition, otherwise the meaning of the sentence may become ambiguous. For example, the phrase "Wide loggias frame the tinted glass screens" will sound better if you rearrange the appendix and the subject: "Tinted glass screens frame the wide loggia".

Sometimes an incorrect word order can completely change the meaning of a sentence, so if you write a text, be sure to read it after a while, this will allow you to avoid phrases such as: “Cribs for babies of various colors have arrived at the store” and “We examined the scene of the incident, where committed a crime involving witnesses."

Make sure that your proposals are always logically completed, the main idea should be traced in them. An example of an unsuccessful proposal is: "The production of ferrous metals requires a large increase in scrap metal procurement, since about half of all steel is smelted from scrap metal." To emphasize the idea of ​​the need to increase the collection of scrap metal, redo the phrase like this: "Increasing the collection of scrap metal is very important for steel production, since half of all ferrous metals are smelted from scrap."

Try to use as few stamps, clichés, parasite words as possible. They do not always turn out to be speech errors, but sometimes they greatly spoil the impression of a text or statement.
