Learning any foreign language takes time and regular classes, and lessons at school, university or at language courses are usually not enough, so almost all teachers give their students independent homework. All tasks can be divided into four main groups: you need to learn to read, write, listen and speak.

If you were asked to read a text in English at home, then, first of all, you will have to get a dictionary. It can be either a paper thick dictionary or electronic ones - you can easily find them on the Internet. You should not use automatic translators of whole sentences, these programs are very imperfect and often distort the meaning of the text so much that, in trying to guess what was discussed, you can make a lot of mistakes. It is better to translate unfamiliar words separately and write them in a separate notebook, so they are better remembered, and you do not have to translate the same word many times. In addition, in the dictionary you can always see (and in some electronic versions hear) how the new word sounds for you correctly.

If you are asked to retell a text, try to retell it for yourself in your own language first. And then translate the resulting retelling into English. This, of course, is much more complicated than just taking and verbatim learning individual phrases from the text, but such a method will teach you to speak better on your own, rather than memorized template phrases, which in live communication you still will not have enough.

In order to speak and write correctly, you will have to do grammar exercises. Perhaps this is not the most interesting part of the lessons, but the more you do such exercises, the faster you will learn grammatical constructions, which will gradually cease to be a set of obscure rules for you and will turn into self-evident elements of the language. Do not do these tasks on the computer, unless it provides for the format of this homework, write by hand, so you will better understand and remember the correct spelling of words and grammatical constructions.

When listening to audio recordings, do not try to understand every spoken word at the first attempt, the main thing is to catch the general meaning of what has been said. At various exams, the audio is usually played twice, and for the second time you can already try to understand as much as possible. However, if your level of English or the complexity of the audio recording does not allow you to understand everything even after two auditions, do not be afraid to listen more and more until you become more or less clear what is being said. Homework was thought up to give you the opportunity to complete the tasks at a pace convenient for you, allowing you to learn all the material you learned in the lesson with the teacher.
